In this time of technology, mobile apps are something which people cannot do without. Every kind of app is available today, from checking your weight to reading the news. Let's have a look at some information about different sorts of mobile application used in the United States.

There are approximately 800,000 apps available today with Google's Android and Apple's iOS, which are increasing every day. Some say, these statistics are way lesser than the actual amount of apps available. In the United States, on an average 41 apps are downloaded by one person on his/her Smartphone and they spend around 39 mins everyday using them, according to Nielsen.

When we talk about what type of applications are used the most, in the United States, Games are the most used applications, followed by widgets and social applications, entertainment and shopping applications, music and photography. Facebook is an application used by the majority of users, say approximately 80 percent. E-bay and Amazon are the most downloaded and popular applications for shopping. Google search, Google maps and Google play store are other applications which are used by almost every smart-phone user. According to Nielsen, 62 percent of people in the US use apps at the minimum.

Other applications that popular among the people in the United States are:

  • Games: Angry Birds, Subway Surfer, Temple Run, Where's my Water, Candy Crush Saga, Words with Friends, Draw Something, Farmville, Plant vs Zombies, Minecraft, Despicable me etc are some of the most used game apps.
  • Social: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Whats app, Snap-chat, BBM, We-chat, Viber, Skype, Vine are some of the most used social apps.
  • Shopping: E-bay, Red Laser, Walgreens, Target, Amazon Mobile, Shop Kick, Groupon etc are some of the most used shopping apps.
  • Music, Entertainment and Work: Pandora Radio, Kindle, Bar-code Scanner, Adobe Reader, Apple iTunes, YouTube, Cooliris, The Weather Channel, After Life, Free Music Downloader Pro etc are some of the most used entertainment and music apps.
There has always been a battle between iOS and Android applications, both having a tough competition to run. It is estimated that in 2013 there were 50-60 billion app downloads and in 2017 there could be 200 billion downloads! Life without apps is unimaginable for the average human being now, everything today can be done with the help of these thousands of apps. However, it is left to see whether mankind can restrain from crossing the thin line between necessity and addiction.
